The "Toedlein Edition" of Death's Black Train combines musical darkness with artisanal symbolism.
Pressed on black vinyl, each record rests in a heavy, hand-printed 3-color screen-printed cover made of 540g/sqm cardboard - an expression of durability and precision craftsmanship. The record rests within a gatefold sleeve, held together by a unique Toedlein - designed and crafted by German artist Steffen Lenk.
The Toedlein is a medieval symbol of transience, a memento mori. It is a reminder of the end of all earthly things and was once worn as a personal memento of the deceased. Each of these unique pieces consists of a hand-carved skull made of buffalo horn and a coffin made of wood and various textiles, lovingly crafted and patinated with ash to create a special depth and aura.
This edition is not just a record, but a ritual object - an invitation to engage with finiteness, art and sound.
